How we tested:
Here is a list of the applications we've used for our testing - most of them are available for public consumption, with the exception of Valve's Source Engine particle benchmark. All of the benchmarks were run at least three times and the results were averaged.
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion v1.2
- Supreme Commander v3223
- Call of Duty v1.2
- Quake 4 v1.3.0
- Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0
- WinRAR 3.60
- VirtualDub 1.6.15
- Xvid 1.2 beta
- LAME MT 3.97
- POV-Ray 3.7 beta 21
- Cinebench 9.5
- Valve Source Engine particle simulation benchmark
- FRAPS 2.8.2
Our Core 2 Duo E6700 and Core 2 Duo E6600 processors are emulated with a Core 2 Extreme X6800 with the appropriate multiplier selected in the motherboard's BIOS. The Q6700 we've tested was actually a QX6700, but since these processors are the same aside from the unlocked multiplier, you will see no differences in performance. Finally, we emulated our Athlon 64 X2 5600+ too with an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ using a 14.0x multiplier.
Without further ado, lets have a look at how the Q6600 stacks up against the competition...
